Iosco Exploration Trail
This trail system offers activities such as biking, hiking, birding, and more. It is to connect communities in Iosco County and stimulate local economy.
Purpose
- Promote additional recreation options in Iosco County:
- Biking
- Birding (adding to the largest Michigan birding trail in the nation)
- Hiking
- Economic impact
- The path is expected to have a significant positive impact for the county as other paths have provided in many other communities
- Bring additional tourists from other states and countries
- Increase population growth, business, and employment opportunities
- Safety
- Place the increased amount of bikers, walkers, and runners on a path instead of being on or too close to vehicle traffic
- Provide a safe route for children traveling to and from schools
- Increase visibility of notable sites in the county
- Recreationally connect communities from one side of the county to the other
- Provide additional activities for residents

Oscoda Wurtsmith Airport
Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport opened as a public airport on December 1, 1993, following the closure of Wurtsmith Air Force Base.
Initially the Airport was operated by the State of Michigan through the Wurtsmith Base Conversion Authority. On October 1, 1994 the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority assumed this responsibility. The Authority was organized under the provisions of the Michigan Act 206 of 1957 and is comprised of five municipal constituents; Oscoda Township, AuSable Township, Greenbush Township, Iosco County and Alcona County. The purpose of the Authority is generally to operate and maintain a public airport.
